Not Another Glue-Comp
A stereo bus compressor built on a classic British VCA topology. Transformer saturation, program-dependent auto-release, 4x oversampling.
I built this because I kept reaching for the same classic British console-style bus comp in every session, and nothing I could afford actually sounded right. Too clean, too slow, or just off. So I modeled the circuit myself.
Not Another Glue-Comp runs a VCA circuit with transformer saturation that adds harmonic density without muddying the low end. The compression reacts to your program material, faster on transients, slower on sustained content.
What it actually does:
- ·Program-dependent auto-release: release time adapts to your material, reacting faster to transients and slower to sustained content
- ·Transformer saturation adds 2nd and 3rd order harmonics without muddying the low end
- ·VCA nonlinearities give it characteristic punch you don't get from clean digital designs
- ·4x oversampling for alias-free processing on high-frequency content
Use it on:
- ·Mix bus: 1–3 dB of gain reduction for cohesion without squashing
- ·Drum bus: adds punch and tightens the kit
- ·Any stereo bus where you want density without flattening dynamics
Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Makeup Gain, Mix. Plus a sidechain HPF from 30–185 Hz to keep kick and bass out of the detection circuit.
The demo is free. Try it in your own session first.
Try before you buy: demo mode plays a 10-second silence every 2 minutes.

What Users Say
“Very transparent. It does seem to be more musical than other "glue" comps like this one.”
— Gearspace
“This is pretty nice, a difficult decision vs similar style comps that I already have.”
— Gearspace
“Transparent sound, the harmonics from the emulation enrich the tone. Even at higher compressions around 5 dB, no audible pumping. Even without compression, the signal is audibly enriched. Noticeable improvement in the highs with oversampling. Recommended.”
